Setting up for my Grandpa's 80th birthday party was so much fun because he loves bright colors, plus he's a kid at heart. I bought those blowouts on a whim, not at all expecting how much everyone would love them. After singing Happy Birthday to my Grandpa, everyone went absolutely ballistic with those blowouts, blowing, laughing, and crying for approximately 6 minutes (I taped the whole thing). I've never had so much fun at a birthday party. :)

I've temporarily moved into my sister's old room while my aunt uses my bedroom. You see, there lays a very old and uncomfortable twin size mattress in my sister's old room, one that we used years ago when we lived in West LA. I couldn't dream of torturing my aunt with the horrid thing so my parents and I arranged for her to spend her stay in my room with my very comfy full size bed. So for the time being I've moved all of things into my sister's room, with the exception of my clothes and purses because that would have just been a nightmare.

Avocado Hair Mask

Good evening! :) After a long day of shopping with my aunt, mom, and grandpa, I unwound by giving myself a little at-home spa treat. :) I whipped up my weekly avocado hair mask before jumping in my hot bath and snapped some photos in the process. :)

Me ^_^

Ingredients: Almond oil, Apricot oil, Jojoba oil, honey and avocado

1). Mash up 1/2 an avocado in a small bowl

2). Add 1 tbsp. almond oil

3). Add 1/2 tbsp. apricot oil and 1/2 tbsp. jojoba oil

4). Add 1 tbsp. honey

5). Mix ingredients and apply to clean, wet hair

6). Wrap hair with hair cap and warm towel and leave on for 30 minutes

7). Wash out with mild shampoo (rinse very well!) and condition

I didn't take a photo with the mask IN my hair because... well let's face it, that green mask looks downright disgusting. lol. But it does work wonders! :)

Let's Talk Skincare

Happy Saturday! :) I hope everyone is having a lovely afternoon, filled with brunch/lunch dates alongside loved ones. I've had a wonderful week so far with my aunt and grandfather visiting my family from South Korea. It's always great to be in the surrounding of family, isn't it? Since we don't get to see each other very often, my family tries to cherish these (once every two years) visits to the fullest. It's been pretty awesome. :)

Switching gears, I'd like to talk about my favorite subject: SKINCARE (and I bring up skincare because my aunt has wonderful, dewy skin from Korea's humid climate)! Lately, I've been dealing with some issues with my skin- it's been dry, flaky, and irritable! LA weather hasn't been too kind with the roller coaster temps- low 50 F with rain on Monday, all the way to 83 F on Friday with sunny skies?! From Monday's frigid cold night to yesterday's warm dry heat, my skin hasn't been able to retain moisture at all.

Here are a few new products I've added to my skincare regimen to help my dry skin.

YonKa Alcohol Free Toner with Botanical Essential Oils

What it does: Penetrates upon application to purify and relax the skin and leaves skin supple, comfortable and satin smooth.

I've been using the YonKa Toner and Shiseido Eye Cream for about two months now and I love them both. The YonKa Toner comes in a spray pump so it's easy apply, as well as refreshing to smell. Because the formula is alcohol-free, it hasn't dried out my skin so I haven't had to worry about avoiding my eye area. The Shiseido Eye Cream has a thick consistency (which is great for eye creams) and it leaves my under eye are moist and smooth all night long without a greasy feeling. I really feel like the eye cream penetrates deep into my pores, plumping my under eye area.

The Decleor is my newest purchase- only two days old! I thought after using the Caudalie serum that I'd never find a more moisturizing product but I was so wrong! My new Decleor serum requires only 2-3 drops per use, then I dab, dab, dab on my face and voila! My skin is left feeling silky smooth, wrinkles left behind! :) I have fallen absolutely head over heels for this $70 Decleor serum that I will not hesitate to splurge again when I'm all out!! I definitely recommend this serum for those of you who suffer from very dry skin like me.

Really. you. won't. regret it. ;)

The boyfriend got Bella a few days ago and the two of us couldn't be happier! She's a healthy 6 1/2 week old Siberia Husky with bright blue eyes and was the chubbiest and gentlest of her siblings. Even though this pup pees and poops everywhere, we love her to death!! I've been doggy-sitting Bella at the store while the boyfriend runs errands in the daytime, then she sleep at his apt at night. Good evening! :) Hope everyone has had a lovely Tuesday in the midst of last minute holiday shopping (if you're anything like me). I spent Monday at The Grove in Los Angeles walking amongst a sea of holiday shoppers, all eager to buy gifts. I had a pretty good haul of gifts from The Grove but had to complete my shopping at Santa Monica Place this afternoon. After a few hours of shopping, the boyfriend and I settled into Blue Stove at Nordstrom for a quick dinner.

We've been coming to Blue Stove for a few months now and we always always are so satisfied with their food and service. The first time we ate here was just on a whim while shopping and passing through Nordstrom and back then they didn't even have any reviews on Yelp (they have 82 reviews now!)! Their tapas (small plates) are portioned well for the prices and we're usually pretty stuffed after sharing 3 plates (and some beers ^_^). If you ever dine here, please please try the lemon scallops and skirt steak... you will not regret it.

I am so happy to say that I am done with my Christmas shopping!!! :D All I have left to do is some wrapping and card-writing (pat pat). :o)

I'll do a post on what I bought my loved ones... after Christmas. ;)

Over the weekend, my sister took me to lunch at Alcove Cafe & Bakery in Los Feliz. It was my first time here and I was pretty excited to finally try their food after much anticipation from Yelp. I ordered the giNORMous Alcove Burger and my sis ordered the above pictured omelette (I cannot remember the name of the dish for the life of me). The wait in line and for our food to come out was a bit too long for my liking, therefore, I don't ever plan on eating here again on the weekends. BUT, I will go back on a weekday at an odd hour to eat, say like 4pm. :)

My sister really liked her omelette but I was a little disappointed with my burger. My bad for ordering a huge burger at a cafe though, right? When I go back, I think I'll try one of their breakfast foods or benedicts. Yum. :)

Isn't this pup adorable? My friend Diana bought herself this little puppy on Sunday and here, Kory is pictured sleeping on her bed. Poor thing must have been exhausted from all the attention she was getting from six girls with all of our "AW!!" and "OH MY GOSH!!!!"'s. :)

I'll be spending the first part of my day today at Final Choice, then at The Grove to do a little Christmas shopping with a friend. I'm sort of dreading the thought of all those people at the mall pushing and shoving to finish last minute Christmas shopping... but I'll have to make the best of it. :)

Loved the tapas here with the exception of the too-citrusy/too-sour halibut ceviche and the slightly overpriced tuna tatare. Otherwise, their other tapas and cocktails were really tasty. :) Ambiance was great and so was the service so the boyfriend and I will definitely be returning for more late night dinners. Picca closes pretty late so if you're looking for a dinner date past 10pm, this is the place to go.

Evening, everyone! :) I suppose I'm still awake and energetic because of my grande hazelnut Americano from Starbucks at 2:00 this afternoon. I was jittery by 4pm and am still uppity 10+ hours later. I should probably try to calm my nerves by drinking some water...

Anyhoo, I spent most of my day buying merchandise in Downtown LA's Fashion District. After about five hours of going in and out of wholesale/importers, I went back to the store, unloaded merchandise, printed out tags for everything, and then came home. I cleaned my room/did some laundry, watched an instructional video for my Nikon D5100, then realized that I hadn't blogged in at least a week.. so here I am! :)

I haven't had a chance to snap photos of my outfits because I wasn't home much during the weekend. I spent my weekend at my sister's apartment in LA where we got body massages and had dinner at Figaro Bistro in Los Feliz. It was delicious! :) My boyfriend and I also spent some time together and had a really yummy dinner over drinks at a Korean bar.

Happy Tuesday! :) I've been sort of m.i.a from Blogger due to the following reasons: The Twilight Saga Collection on my Kindle, leftover Thanksgiving food, and shopping. I picked up this sweater and booties on Sunday with my mom. Shopping with the parents is the best, isn't it? :) Weather today looked a bit chilly from my bedroom window so I threw on this hat for some warmth but turns out, it's about 80 degrees outside. yikes.

**I've been using my DIY hair masks about once a week (haven't had time to keep the 3x rule). It's definitely helping my hair stay hydrated... must record a video sometime this week.

Giving Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I have so much to be thankful for this year...

First off, I am thankful for life. This year has been a roller coaster full of ups and downs but through it all, I am happy and healthy. Life is a precious thing and it can be taken away in an instant so why not live it to the fullest? Here's a new quote I'm living by:

Second, I'm grateful for my family. Although at times I get frustrated with my parents since I work and live with them, I'm still thankful for their presence. The older I get, the more I realize that this is the time I have to know and cherish them. I don't want to look back one day and realize that I never knew my mom and dad. I want to be able to have children and share endless stories about their grandparents and about how they lived and grew up. Even afer 24 years, I'm still learning new sides to each of my parents that I never knew. Love you, Mom and Dad.
My sister recently moved out to an apartment in LA to be closer to her law school. Even with the separate living arrangements though, we still find time to catch up and spend sisterly time together. We especially like to do this over Glenlivet and Downton Abbey. ;)

Third, I'm thankful for all of my friends. My girlfriends are especially amazing. No matter how much time has passed, we always find ways to reconnect and support one another through each others tough times. <3 We're all so different but together, we form some strange, strong bond. :) Love you CDC!

Last but not least, I am thankful for a new person in my life: the boyfriend. :) Never in my life have I met someone so accepting and patient like him. He really is the kindest person I know (other than my dad). I'm very lucky. :)

I hope everyone spends their Thanksgiving Day with loved ones around a huge feast of delicious food. :) I'm off to start cooking with my sister! :)

Home Remedies for Dry Hair

Since I did a post on Home Remedies for Dry Skin here, this is my post on remedies for dry hair. Before I get into that though, here's some recent info about my hair...

Last week I had a horrible hair bleaching/coloring experience. I bleached then colored my hair 4 times in 1 day because my hair wouldn't turn into any other color but orange. By the second dye, my scalp was burning hot and I seriously thought I was going to have permanent scalp damage. A few days later though (after walking around with my hair up in a tight bun), I decided to go to a professional and had my hair recolored and bleached to the color I wanted. I love my new hair BUT I'm definitely having to pay the consequences of my impulsive behavior. My ends are extremely brittle and dry and no matter how much Moroccan Oil I apply, it doesn't seem to help.

I know that I can't undo the damage done but I can change the moisture content of my hair. And so for that reason, I'll be applying homemade masks to my hair at least 3 times a week until I see and feel a dramatic change in the quality of my hair.

After a little research, I found that the same ingredients that are good for dry skin are also great for dry hair. My post here on remedies for dry skin has a list of ingredients for you to refer back to.

Here are a few recipes I've used in the past and will be using.

*Apply all masks on rinsed, wet hair. Clip hair in a bun and wrap with plastic film after applying mixtures. Rinse with cold water for maximum shine.

Ingredients: 2 cups yogurt, 4 tbsp. honey

Mix yogurt and honey. Apply mixture and rinse with a mild shampoo after 30 minutes.

Ingredients: 1 banana, 1 egg, 1/2 avocado, 2 tbps. honey, 3 tbsp. buttermilk, 3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

Mash banana, egg, and avocado in a small bowl. Mix in the honey, buttermilk, and evoo and combine. Apply mixture and rinse with a mild shampoo after 30 minutes.

Ingredients: 3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil, 3 tbsp. honey

Mix evoo and honey. Apply mixture and rinse with a mild shampoo after 30 minutes.

Ingredients: 1 egg white, 1/4 cup yogurt, 1/4 cup mayonnaise

Beat egg white until frothy. Mix yogurt and mayonnaise into frothy egg white. Apply mixture and rinse with a mild shampoo after 30 minutes.

Ingredients: 5 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil, 2 eggs

Mix evoo and eggs. Apply mixture and rinse with a mild shampoo after 3

Ingredients: 1 banana, 1 egg, 3 tbsp. honey, 3 tbsp. milk, 5 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

Mash banana and combine the remaining ingredients. Apply mixture and rinse with a mild shampoo after 30 minutes.

Ingredients: 1 banana, 1/2 avocado

Combine the banana and avocado in a blender until smooth. Apply mixture and rinse witha mild shampoo.

*Refrigerate leftover hair mask for up to 2 days after use.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin

My favorite topic: Skincare.

If you're anything like me and often wake up with an uncomfortable tightness in your skin, these DIY face masks will work wonders for you. I've dealt with dry skin (and hair!) for my whole life so I know that only moisturizing doesn't always guarantee glowing skin. Taking the extra step in making these simple face masks always leaves my face smooth and hydrated.

Did you know...

Avocado is filled with monounsaturated fats and vitamins A, B, D, and E. Avocado can penetrate the skin quickly, making the skin moisturized.
Honey has ability to absorb and retain moisture, keep the skin hydrated, and prevent skin dryness.
Cucumber is known to be a cooking agent due to the water in it. It helps in soothing and softening skin.
Egg yolk is a rich source of vitamins A, D, and E, and amino acids. Vitamin A is a strong anti-wrinkle vitamin while amino acids help nourish skin cells.

Here are a list of ingredients that benefit dry skin:

Almond oil
Aloe vera
Avocado
Banana
Chamomile
Coconut oil
Cucumber
Egg yolk
Extra virgin olive oil
Honey
Jojoba oil
Macadamia nut oil
Oatmeal
Yogurt

Pick and choose any 2 or 3 of these ingredients and you've got an instant mask, all-natural and chemical-free! :) Here are a few combos I've found online or created.

Ingredients: 1/2 avocado, 1/4 cup honey

Mash the avocado in a bowl with a fork, mix in honey. Apply to a clean face, rinse after 20 minutes.

Ingredients: 1/2 banana, 3 tbsp. yogurt, 1 tbsp. honey

Mash the banana in a bowl with a fork, mix in yogurt and honey. Apply to a clean face, rinse after 20 minutes.

Ingredients: 1-2 tbsp. honey

Apply honey to a clean face, rinse after 30 minutes. (This one is my favorite!!)

Ingredients: 2 tbsp. oatmeal, 3 tbsp. honey

Mix together the oatmeal and honey. Apply to a clean face, rinse after 20 minutes.

Ingredients: 1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

Apply evoo to a clean face, rinse after 30 minutes.

Ingredients: 1 egg yolk, 1 tspn. honey, 1 tspn. extra virgin olive oil

Mix together the egg yolk, honey, and evoo. Apply to a clean face, rinse after 15 minutes.

Ingredients: 1 cup cucumber puree, 1/2 avocado, 1 tspn. honey, 2 tspn. extra virgin olive oil.

Mix together the cucumber puree (set aside the juices), avocado, honey, and evoo. Apply to a clean face, rinse after 20 minutes. Wash face with the leftover cucumber juice.

I take my skincare routine very seriously, probably because of my mom's influence. She has beautiful skin (and worked hard for it, too) and I only hope to age as graciously as she has. :)

Dinner at The Penthouse was a great experience- great food, service, and atmosphere. The restaurant sits on the top floor of The Huntley Hotel, overlooking the city and beach of Santa Monica. With a 360 degree view, the rooftop restaurant was really romantic. The one thing we could have done without was the super noisy crowd though. We had to change tables at the beginning because we were caught in the middle of three really loud tables. I guess the drunken crowd can't exactly be avoided at a restaurant/bar/lounge, right?

Would definitely return to The Penthouse for dinner with friends or a maybe family brunch. :)

Hello everyone! I hope you all have been keeping warm during this transition into the winter season. I've been sleeping with two layers of clothing and socks and THREE blankets for the past few nights. Brr! It got down to 48 degrees in So Cali last night! I think it's time for me to visit Williams-Sonoma for their hot chocolate mix soon. :)

Halloween Celebrations

Hello everyone! I wanted to do a little post on my Halloween at The Belasco in Downtown LA. :) To recap the night, the boyfriend and I ended up getting to the club suuuuper late because our taxi driver picked us up 30 minutes late, I didn't get a single photo with all my girlfriends, and... I was downright suffocating in my teeny tiny pink corset. I probably shouldn't have had an Italian dinner with Miles before I squeezed myself in though, huh? ^_^; heh.

The most time consuming part of my whole costume was drawing and rhinstone-ing out my eyes. The whole look took about 2 hours total!! :( I wore the rhinestone butterfly look at work and got so many compliments (as well as sales in those $2 rhinestones, lol). I even did a quick replica for a little customer of the age of 7 and she was very pleased. :)

Overall, I had a really fun Halloween. I liked my costume, I ran into a lot of old friends, and was able to dance the night away, care-free. :)

Last night I made a quick stop at Target to pick up a few essentials. While perusing around, I found myself glued to the electronic section- something that never happens. I've been needing (wanting) a new digital camera for a while now and I was in luck because a few of their cameras were on sale! :)

Kate Spade New York 'Mikas Pond - Lacey' Zip Around Wallet

While passing through Bloomingdale's in search of the perfect gift for my mom, I stumbled upon this adorable Kate Spade wallet. Not only is the wallet purple (my favorite color), the interior is also polka dotted (one of my favorite prints!)!!! Since I have lots of wallets in my Wallet Drawer (that I'm quite obsessed with- I'll take a photo of it and post it soon), I'll have to think about this purchase for a few days before making a decision. :)

My Fashion Icon- Lauren Conrad

The first time I watched Laguna Beach in high school, I fell in love with Lauren Conrad (that is, her personality and style). I think it was Lauren's sweet and friendly personality that drew me to her character, opposed to some of the other girls on the show. Fast forward two or three years and Lauren starred in her own show, The Hills. This was when I began emulating Lauren's style, beginning with her hair down to her accessories, shoes, and clothes.

My Daily Skincare Routine

Hello everyone! :) Happy Wednesday for those of you who are already looking forward to the weekend! My Monday and Tuesday were jam packed with buying merchandise in Downtown LA for my accessory store- six to seven hours of choosing merchandise can really wear a girl down!!

Today I'd like to share with you my daily skincare routine. I'll start off by saying I've been pretty lucky with my skin- I've never had issues with acne or breakout problems. Both my parents have always had great skin which is why I'm thankful for their genes. I have, however, had to deal with dry skin (as well as dry hair, eyes, cuticles, etc.) for the majority of my life. Therefore I've simplified my skincare regimen to the following:

1. Exfoliate with gentle face scrubs

2. Moisturize with potent creams

Today I'll only share my moisturizing products. Let's get started!!
